I’m diving into my TBR list and a rockstar romance was just what I needed to help kick off 2023!
What’s the story?
Rockstar Birdie Wilder is forced to take on a ‘bodyguard’ when her relentless stalker takes things up a notch. Her label wants to cancel the tour which she is dead set against, leaving the only alternative, hiring a ‘babysitter.’
Unfortunately for her, her meddling high school friends Wren & Ben end up setting her up with a ‘trust-worthy’ private security detail, leaving out that it happens to be their best friend and Birdie’s ex-best friend/unrequited love from high school, Liam Miller. The four of them had been a click until Birdie and Liam had a falling out.
A decade later & they haven’t spoken a word since that fateful day. And still, the two of them harbor an awful lot of pent-up tension and hidden attraction for each other. Now they’re stuck together for two months on the road, in a cramped tour bus. As we all know, being on tour can only end one of two ways and there wouldn’t be much of a book if it went the latter.
The Good, The Bad & The Meh…
The Good:
Birdie is a plus-size badass rockstar and a very strong female lead which I absolutely love. Her I don’t give a shit attitude is refreshing, and she doesn’t back down easily, nor is she afraid to confront the issues at hand. The draw between the two of them is magnetic, even though their enemies’ stages. The heat level is spicy and sprinkled in exactly where it’s needed.
I love the body positivity in this book! So many good things are said about how to keep body confidence and not let anyone else put you down.
The Meh:
I expected more than just a touch of high school heartbreak that was carried out a decade later. I feel like it could have been a bit more angsty, or had higher stakes. I don’t want to give it away so I’ll let you decide.
The Bad:
Liam is good in so many ways except for being a bodyguard. It was kind of predictable how his ‘screw up’ plays out, but overall it didn’t take away from the story, it was more of an eye-roll moment for me.
If you like a plus-sized heroine, badass rockstar, friends to enemies with a touch of danger, and spicy… then this book is for you.
