Oct & Nov Reviews

Ladywood Readers Club

I feel like October & November were a blur. Between my work schedule, and one or all of us being sick it has been quite the busy fall. Plus my book Chasing Hartes released! Despite all of that I managed to read a few books, some of which I read a few months ago but hadn’t had a chance to post.

Let’s dive in

I finally have the review for Parentmoon by LB Dunbar, which I promise, did not take me as long to read as it might seem since it’s been on my shelf for a while. Now if you don’t know, LB Dunbar specializes in silver fox romances with heat!

Tropes: One Bed, MCs in their 40s, vacation vibes, single parents, second chance romance, billionaire.

This storyline was so fun! Our characters are the parents of the bride and groom who unfortunately call off the wedding the week before!

Not wanting the vacation to go to waste the groom (Michael) sends his single mother, Jo, instead. 10 days in Belize on an all expense paid trip (yes please).

What neither of them knows is that the father of the bride, Dallas, also had planned to enjoy the trip since it was his gift and his hotel.

The duo soon realize that there paradise might lead to more things than fishing and drinks by the pool. The undeniable attraction between them boils over especially when there sharing a bed.

The meh: I think our leading lady, Jo, focused are to much on her past since he was never actually in it and it happened a long time ago. I think the word ‘darlin’ was a tad over used.

Overall this was spicy, fun and had really great vacation vibes. I highly recommend.

I have not read an MQ in so long it’s absurd. For Co Wreckers, I chose to go back to her earlier days instead of her newest series, although I am dying to read The Way I Hate Him. But I can’t keep up! She literally has to many new ones for me to catch up. The woman is a machine! But anyways let’s get into this one.

Tropes: College romance, grumpy/sunshine (she’s grumpy), sporty,

Welcome to the coupling of “sturdy tits to cannon cock.”

This is a college romance, which I admit I do not read to much of, but there is an interesting story behind this one so I thought I’d give it a try.

Sadie and Andrew meet working at Friendly’s a local ice cream parlour/ restaurant. He is the new guy in town and Sadie is forced into training him. Oh, did I mention that she despises training people.

Andrew is nerdy but hot, light, fun and does’t really have a mean bone in him, while Sadie is our grumpy, traumatized lead with a heavy past. Including and ex boyfriend that has literally been the best and worst of her life. Not to mention, he’s still trying to win her back.

Will she choose the path most travelled or forage a new path and maybe find herself again?

The good: It was a quick read, had plenty of spice, and I like how she had to battle the past and truly decide between ex and Andrew, although it wasn’t much of a choice.

The meh- Honestly I didn’t love Sadie. I think I screamed at her several times. She was very closed off, secretive and just sucky as a girlfriend. Don;t worry she does has some redeeming qualities.

Fall season is here and this next one promised to be everything we love about it. The Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Laurie Gilmore is set in a small town, quirky townsfolk and even town hall meetings.

Tropes: Small town, grumpy/sunshine, gilmore girls vibes.

First off this book started of so cute. Our FMC Jeanie inherits a beloved cafe in Dream Harbour and after needing a restart on well everything.

The problem is the cafe might be haunted? A string of mysterious incidents start happening pretty soon after she moves in and she enlists the town’s hot farmer, Logan, to help solve the mystery.

The book club! Hilarious. I love the townspeople.

The meh: It was a cute read but it fell flat. I liked the story line and the small town vibes, but I didn’t find any grumpy/sunshine or that he was closed off. The minute he saw her he’d do anything for her. Which is great but I had hoped for a bit more angst?

Last but not least….Hex and the City.

Tropes: Sex and the city meets Hocus Pocus.

So… I dnf’d.

I know… horrible right? This is such a popular book and it seemed like it was going to be fun!

I mean I might try again, but I found I was confused. The transitions between characters POV wasn’t marked so one paragraph to another it changed.

I have never DNF’d a book. I sometimes find that the beginning might be slow but at some point it picks up and I’m in love so…if I reattempt I’ll keep you posted.

What’s on the shelf for Nov?

Why choose hockey romance MFM…
Bar romance, small town, new beginnings?
