Love, Lust & A Reading Must!

K.I.S.S Bookclub Feb Reads

In the month of love of course we would need to review some steamy books. Don’t let these cute covers fool you they are steamier than expected.

Book Boyfriend by Claire Kingsley

I loved the concept of this book. Alex is our part time sci-fi writer who hates his daytime job. He is also struggling under the weight of his dads medical bills. His sister Kendra (a genius) talks him into trying to write a romance book. Which he scoffs at. Until he reads a few of them and thinks I could do this. But who would buy from a guy? He decides to write under the female pen name Lexi Logan.

Our boy has a natural talent for writing and his book takes off enough that he writes more and more even being able to quit his day job. He meets our lovely, albeit walking disaster Mia in a bookstore of all places and he was mesmerized like all the swoony-worthy stuff he writes about.

But as he and Mia become closer they both have a huge secret and it just might be the end of them When it comes out.

What was KISS worthy? The plot. Loved it! The spice was fantastic and I really liked Mia and Alex as a couple. The side characters are great and add some realness to the story.

As a noteable mention I read my signed paperback of this book!

The Way I Hate Him- Meghan Quinn

Yes, of course I needed to read a small town MQ book!

Hayes is our country singer playboy who has a family past one could only write about in songs. He’s just wrapped up his tour and headed back home to Almond Bay.

Hattie is struggling in life atm. After her sisters death she flunked out of school. All she wanted was the comfort of her long time boyfriend, except when she gets back to her hometown Almond Bay he dumps her!

Scathing in anger she finds a box of stolen merchandise from his boss Hayes, thinking she could get some revenge she takes the items and returns them to Hayes hoping he would go after her ex. Except it backfires.

Hayes is somewhat amused she even had the balls to go to his place considering the rivalry he has with her brother has all but divided the town. Seeing an opportunity, (he heard she was broke, out a job and quit school with no where to go) he offers her a job as his assistant. She laughs and says not a chance but then he blackmails her, leaving her no choice.

What was KISS worthy? The enemies-to-lovers, hot and sassy banter, age gap and spice! Not to mention I love a good small town romance. The side characters are some of the best I’d read. The plot of this goes deeper than friends-to-lovers with her sisters death and let me say this was also a tear-jerker. This book hit every range of emotion. I went from laughing, to being angry to crying then laughing.

Stolen Sweetheart and Stolen Deception by Kaylene Mcphee

These are books 1& 2 of 3 (not released yet). They are continual so you have to read Stolen Sweetheart first. These are Y/A, new adult although the content is much more suited to adult. It also has a hockey plotline as the male characters are all on the same team. Love triangle. Trigger warnings include, cheating, drugs, toxic behaviour, violence. Oh the drama of highschool love…

Stolen Sweetheart-

We meet our large cast of characters finishing their last year of highschool. There’s a lot of toxicity in this book, because of the love triangle. All main characters have a POV so you can get in everyone’s head. I’m only going to focus on the love triangle piece because there’s a of stuff happening.

Blair- our FMC who I was a fan of, suddenly derailed in the book. Blame it on the boys and the chaos that ensued.

Jonathan– Blairs, lying cheating boyfriend. They have and off/on again relationship. He is a coke head, party guy and genuinely treats her like garbage.

Trevor– Jonathan’s best-friend and he HATES Blair. All they do is fight. He is also the hot-head, scary guy of the group.

Stolen Deception-

They have moved onto College. There are only the 3 main characters POV which was easier to follow. I loved the start of this book, when Trevor come back to Blair I swooned. I loved it. But then they break up again and it’s brutal! Trevor is an ass and Blair loves to self destroy. There’s a few storylines I didn’t like, but I will also say that I’m eagerly waiting for the 3rd book because I have to see how it ends! And after how they break up I really am not sure I want them to get back together even though I’ve seen the marketing and promos stuff and I know they do, but it’s the how and how much grovelling will there be!

What was KISS worthy? The drama. Man she really nails the self damage we do as teenagers. There isn’t too much spice in the first book. More in the second. The heartbreaks are brutal and you can really feel the rage, embarassment and love through the books.

Notable**Kaylene is a Canadian Author and the book is set up north and Wasaga Beach! As a fellow Canadian and one who grew up north of Toronto this book brought up some memories of my youth!
